Breast Augmentation Recovery FAQ: When Will My Breast Implants Settle?
Breast augmentation recovery FAQ: When will my breast implants settle?
Answer:
It is normal for patients who have undergone breast augmentation to want to see their final result quite quickly.
Remember that breast implants are foreign to the body and will take time to adjust. Patients can expect that swelling will continue to increase after the first 24 hours and then reach its peak between 48-72 hours after surgery. Swelling and bruising is normal for a few days. I would advise patients to speak with their Plastic Surgeon if at all concerned, especially if there are other symptoms present, such as a high fever, severe vomiting or nausea, bright red skin which is hot to the touch, pain which cannot be controlled with prescribed pain killers and excessive bleeding or seeping through the dressings.
Breasts can seem to change shape and position almost on a daily basis, and one side may settle sooner than the other. But they will generally start to settle from 3 months and it can take 6-12 months before patients will see the final results.
So, if you’re in the immediate post-operative period and your breasts don’t look or feel like you imagined, don’t panic. There isn’t a quick fix for recovery. Take it slow, relax and stay in contact with your Plastic Surgeon with any questions and regular follow-up.
